Since 1998 Handicap International has been working with several local organizations providing health care and support for former "child-soldiers" and other abandoned children, victims of the conflict. It has become apparent that psychological support for these children is vital and that training and psychological support for the social workers who work with them is also needed. It is extremely difficult for them to understand the behavior and suffering of these former “child-soldiers” who may well have been involved in killing their families and neighbors during the war.
