Stroke patients and their relatives based in the eastern town of Koidu have formed the Stroke Victims Association (Kono Branch). Pa Sahr Kai who was unilaterally elected as the Chairman of the organisation said that as a stroke victim himself, their main aim was to put together an organisation that can effectively push forward the silence voices and needs of the various stroke victims in that part of the country.

Mr Komba Bockarie who was elected Secretary said that as a pharmacist and a stroke victim also he is upbeat about the need for the new organisation to foster the needs and aspiration of the majority of stoke victims in Kono who are presently ignored. “The only way we can do this effectively is to form ourselves into a united force and lobby for required help.” At the present moment the association has no meeting place so the HI office in Koidu Town is the point of meeting. And they will also be receiving logistical help from HI who would be providing assistance such as sensitisation, information packaging like drawing up of the association's main aspirations, programmes and memos, computers and printing assistance, and professional advice and partnership. HI site administrator based in Koidu Town, Sahr Ngougou told the association executive and elders that HI will always render support to associations that seek to forward the interest of disabled. “You must now put hands on deck to ensure that you live up to the ideals of the association,” he cautioned them.
