Vietnam, also struck by Typhoon Ketsana, has been battling rising floodwaters and landslides, particularly in the areas around the coastal region of Danang, where Handicap International's spinal cord injury rehabilitation center is located.

The center, although seriously damaged from the 150 km/h (93.2 mph) winds that swept the country, evacuated its 250 patients before the typhoon arrived.

Handicap International is focusing its relief efforts on repairing the center so it is ready to welcome new patients in need of rehabilitations. As of Friday, a partner hospital in Danang was treating about 100 serious injuries; however, more wounded were expected in the near future. Vietnamese authorities indicate more than 100 people have died.

The center is also providing assistance to patients and their families most affected by the disaster. Approximately 200 people with disabilities who receive rehabilitation in their homes suffered property damage as well.

Flash floods and landslides have left hundreds of thousands of houses damaged or submerged. Neighboring Cambodia and Laos are also battling floodwaters that resulted from the typhoon.
