A nomadic tradition and a strong cross-border commercial activity are the reasons why a regional HIV/Aids project had to be planned for Ethiopia, Somaliland and Djibouti. Despite the important mobility of these populations, Handicap International presents encouraging figures from the start of the project in December 2006.

Advisory and voluntary testing centers opened to date: 4 as well as a youth center in Somaliland where an advisory service is also offered.

Screening tests performed: 233

Mobile testing: 622

Trained medical staff: 18 laboratory assistants, 42 advisers, 100 nurses and support staff (ethical and confidentiality rules, universal precautions and post-exposure prophylaxis), 18 nurses providing medical care for people infected with HIV/AIDS.
