Handicap International in the United States is part of the global handicap international network with headquarters in eight countries that manage and support some 250 programs in more than sixty countries around the world.
Mission Statement
Handicap International works to improve the living conditions of people living in disabling situations in post-conflict and low income countries around the world. We work with local partners to develop programs in health and rehabilitation and social and economic integration. We work with local authorities to clear landmines and other war debris and to prevent mine-related accidents through education. We respond fast and effectively to natural and civil disasters in order to limit serious and permanent injuries and to assist survivors' recovery and reintegration. We advocate for the universal recognition of the rights of the disabled through national planning and advocacy.
Activities
In support of its Mission, Handicap International here in the United States works with the Handicap International network – based in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, Great Britain and Canada – to do the following:

- provide Handicap International expertise in responding to natural and civil disasters to ensure that the newly disabled are appropriately treated in a manner that will give each causality an optimum opportunity for recovery and reintegration;
- recruit, train and field American professionals including doctors, nurses, physical and occupational therapists as well as general managers to serve in HI networks' programs now being implemented in 60 countries;
